Clay Stool, Maarten Baas X Claudy Jongstra
Sometimes an absolute surprise turns up: Niek Schoenmakers, owner of contemporary art and design gallery the Millen House, found this rare and significant piece of Dutch Design. The vibrant yellow Clay Stool is the result of an early collaboration between two leading avant-garde Dutch artist-designers: Maarten Baas and Claudy Jongstra. The piece celebrates craftsmanship, is signed and dated and is part of the renowned CLAY series, which Baas designed in 2006. Jongstra upholstered the stool with a curly and soft matching seat of Drenthe Heath sheep wool dyed with natural plant pigments.
Only three examples of this aesthetic Clay Stool exist: the prototype is included in the collection of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, a stool was sold to an American collector in 2012 , and this collector's item is the third copy waiting at The Milllen House for a new home in a collection or interior.
