Día y Noche - Ritmos del Alma

The work of renowned Spanish fashion designer Marcos Luengo and Dutch artist-activist Claudy Jongstra come together in an exhibition among the plant life of Madrid's Real Jardín Botánico.

Plants, like all life on earth, are affected and influenced by the rhythm of day and night and the cycle of the seasons. In a world that values efficiency and economic gain, Luengo and Jongstra approach their work with a deep respect for the time, knowledge, and intuition it takes to follow the cadence of the natural world.

From the lightest and brightest yellows, greens, and pinks to the deepest, darkest blues and blacks, Jongstra celebrates the limitless spectrum of dyes distilled from plants, many of which can be found in Madrid's historic botanical garden. But more than a celebration of colour, Jongstra's artworks address urgent cultural and ecological themes like biodiversity loss, revitalizing rural communities, and preserving natural heritage.

Committed to using high-quality natural and sustainable materials, Madrid-based Luengo and his team craft each design by hand, combining ancestral techniques with extensive research into artisanal processes layered with cultural and artistic richness.

Following his 2025 collaboration with Jongstra in València, Luengo will present a new collection of garments crafted with biodynamic textiles from LOADS Collection, coloured with plant-based dyes by Studio Claudy Jongstra.

Presented in partnership with Villa del Arte Galleries, the exhibition will also feature Jongstra's 'Nine' and 'Cosmic Cry' diptych artworks created for her 2020 exhibition at Museum De Lakenhal, curated by Suzanne Oxenaar.
