CJIB

The outside of this auditorium is covered with a fabric of raw linen and raw silk in off-white.

The inside is also a wallcovering, another handmade fabric of Studio Claudy Jongstra, in a yellow colour manufactured by the natural dye from onions.
The fabrics are developed in cooperation with Claus & Kaan Architects. Outside hangs a fabric with a strong graphic appearance because of the expressive ‘graphic language’ of the raw linens. Inside, the silk on wool fabrics give a very warm, comfortable, rich feeling. Jongstra works in the field between applied arts and autonomous art.
She comments on architecture, places accents on spots in interiors and defines the focus in public spaces. She brings nature closer and makes it more miraculous than it already is and upsets tradtional views on art.

Bennington College

These three tapestries were designed for Bennington College in Vermont, USA.

CAPA- The Center for the Advancement of Public Action morphs the studio of the artist, the laboratory of a scientist, the workshop of a craftsman, and the think tank of a policy wonk into a place where students are asked to put the world’s most pressing problems at the center of their undergraduate education. This new buildings designed by Tod Williams and Billie Tsien will be home for liberal arts education, while expressing its new radical approach.

Partly primitive, partly animal, partly magic, Claudy Jongstra's felt fabrics are unique in their rough sophistication.

In the tapestries of our ateliers
you will recognize a glimpse of the dynamic of the raw materials used, their irregular beauty, their shimmer and the re-explored possibilities of old crafts in a
new contemporary design.

Our work is included in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in New York, the RISD Museum on Rhode Island, and the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden.

Ketelfactory

"These modern, abstract tapestries display an intense connection with nature and a love of the earth. Claudy's alchemistic searching is down to earth, yet it does open a world that lies beyond the perceptible one. She is creating culture from nature and masters the processes and skills.  With these works of art Studio Claudy Jongsta hopes to rouse the inner knowledge."

Sacred Dahlia exists of bands in carmine red and pruple and gives this work of art a regal dignity and evokes a sense of sanctity.

The smaller works of art are thoughts, they seem like brushstrokes in wool and share a raw honesty.

'Wedding' was created as a solo exhibition especially for the Ketelfactory, Schiedam, NL.

De Ketelfactory is a project space with respect for the author, made possible by the patronage of Nolet Distillery and operates under the direction of Winnie Teschmacher.
